On Monday, President Droupadi Murmu stated that sustainability has evolved from being merely a slogan to an essential requirement. This declaration was made during the 12th National Student Convocation of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India held in the national capital in 2025.
Addressing the pressing issue of climate change, Murmu remarked, “Sustainability is no longer just a catchphrase; it has become a necessity.”
She further emphasized that the time has come for corporate entities to move beyond the sole aim of profit-making and to consider environmental costs in their operations.
Murmu added, “As cost accountants, you have the potential to significantly influence the future of our planet with your skills.” She highlighted the deep connection between accounting and accountability.
During the event, Corporate Affairs Secretary Deepti Gaud Mukherjee urged cost and management accountants to embrace technology, innovation, and agility. She noted the crucial role these professionals play in the journey towards transforming the nation into a $30,000 economy.
